So i recently purchased a i7-4790 and it has been working fantasticaly except that it seems that if i game for more than a few hours that the cpu temp will sky rocket to about 90 C and i feel that is just too high. and it has happened that my computer has blue screened from the temperature reaching too high. I currently use the default heatsink that comes with any CPU but i feel i need to upgrade. So the major issue for me is that i have a relatively small form factor case. A Thermaltake VM54521N2U V2 ATX Mid Tower Case and when i see these dual tower heatsinks i do not think that they would fit. as a side note I am using a ASRock H87M motherboard so i have heard with some heatsinks they will overlap onto the ram slots of these kinds of motherboards.
So currently i am looking for a heatsink that is around the 50-100 dollar mark my main focus is performance and sound is not that big of a deal for me.
Any information would be amazing and please ask any questions you need to help me in this.
Also I thank anyone who tries to help

currently I am looking at Noctua NH-L12 120mm & 92mm but not sure if that is good for the price or not.

Solution

IMO - yes it would. Then you can remove any limitations. But then im a fan of big cases -- mine is 36inches tall.
however, big cases are not cheap:

But a really good case gives you the bonus of being able to re-use it as you upgrade -- my current case is on its 4th system and is 10yrs old. It can save a lot of $$ when upgrading.

3 choices as I see it.

new CPU heatsink
new exhaust fan(s) for your case
new heatsink AND fan

case specs dont say if it has an exhaust fan or not. Im assuming so.. but if not, get one ASAP. Or look at getting a high airflow (CFM) fan. 40CFM or more.

reviews of the case confirm what you said - big coolers will not fit.

So while this one will work great:

It probably wont fit

Try stuff like these instead:

Ones like this have a "chance" of fitting.. only order if you are comfortable with returning and restocking fees:

would it be worth buying a new case and a new heatsink in order to fit the better kind of heatsinks in it? also Would a water cooling rig fit into this case They seem like they may fit onto the back pair of fans but I am not sure. I currently have 3 80 mm exhaust fans in the case one on the side and 2 on the back if that helps.

again IMO - water cooling isnt worth it. Especially if your looking to get a new case.
It may help if you can find a unit that will work in your existing case -- im not a fan of water cooling, so im the wrong person to ask.

For your case fans, make sure they are blowing a GOOD amount of air out. You should have at least one intake fan on the front and then 2 or more exhaust fans. Since you have 3 exhaust fans, that part should be ok. You can also check the temps of the air coming out when your CPU gets too hot.
If the air is warmer than normal, or hot, then upgrading the fans *may* be a cheaper solution. Especially if you can use something like this one:

note "50-55CFM air flow"

thanks im definately going to probably by a full tower case then i feel that alone might dissipate enough heat from all the spare space that maybe I wont even need a new heatsink
