I was attempting to install Windows 8.1 as a virtual machine on Virtualbox.

System specs:

AMD FX-6300
ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
MSI R9 270X
Win 7 64bit

Virtualbox would not allow me to make the machine 64bit. This is usually caused by a setting such as hardware virtualization not being enabled in th BIOS.

I went hunting for these settings, and could not find anything, but did find that my BIOS was out of date.

So i used the built in Flash Utility that downloads the latest BIOS and installs it.

Now my computer won't boot.

It begins booting, and I have a backlit keyboard, and the lights turn off as soon as the Windows splash screen appears. The screen almost does its splash and then i get a BSOD for half a second and it restarts.

I have tried Startup Repair.

I have tried bootrec/fixmbr

I also tried downgrading the BIOS to what I believe was the previous version.

If the SSD (primary drive) is set to IDE mode, the computer boots to a black screen with a flashing hyphen.

If it is in AHCI mode, it boots to the above symptoms (BSOD, restart)

I have reset the BIOS settings to default, Fast Boot is off, XBoost is off.

Any help will be appreciated, I can wipe the SSD if needed but I would prefer not too.

Attempted that, switched the jumper over, switched it back, powered on the machine. Initially it booted to that black screen. So I went back to the bios and changed the Sata Mode to AHCI

That allowed me to begin booting and then it BSOD again.

Quite frustrating, I can't go into advanced boot options or safe mode or anything. Any other ideas?
