Bios and Audio problem

To be brief: an audio issue led me to discover I can no longer access BIOS. No idea why. System is otherwise perfectly functional. When I reboot the computer, and mash delete as quickly as I can, I end up getting nothing but a black screen. If I don't touch anything, then my os boots up fine (ubuntu 14.04)

Edit: I found the solution to both problems.

Bios sometimes doesn't show up on tv screens used as computer monitors because of issues with resolution differences between the tv and bios. The workaround is to use a monitor or switch to DVI to access BIOS.

The audio issue was due to some lacking drivers that after extensive research, I discovered I could not download through ubuntu. This led me to installing windows, which downloaded the drivers for me. I'm pretty sure I could switch back to ubuntu now and I would have audio.
