Hello,

I want to buy a new graphics card and a new CPU. I just want to make sure that they are compatible with my current setup.

The graphics card I want to buy is the "Nvidia GTX 970" and the CPU is the "Intel Core i5-4460".

This is my current setup:

CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

Motherboard - ASUSTeK P8P67-M

Graphics card - AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series (1024 MB)

HDD - Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB ATA Device

RAM - 2x 4GB Kingston 1600 MHz DDR3

Power Supply - 720W Max

I'm also thinking about upgrading my ram to 2x8GB.

Anyway, I would appreciate the help:
First if you can tell me if my current setup is compatible with the new parts I want.
second, any other input/advice/comment etc... you have about this is very welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Kfir

Concerning your Ram, unless you need more than 8 gigs (which most people don't) then don't bother, it will be a waste of money. You can check how much ram you are using by opening task manager and looking in the performance tab at 'Memory usage'. If in a normal session it is getting close to 7gb then you may want to consider adding more.

The graphics card will be compatible but the CPU uses an LGA1150 socket (your motherboard is LGA1155) so you will need a new motherboard if you want that CPU.

If you want you can give me a total budget for cpu and motherboard and I can try and get you the best for your money.

Yes, thank you!! So the graphics card ok, and no need for more ram, so just a CPU and a compatible motherboard. My budget for these two components is 350$ (400$ tops, if it's something that's really worth the difference)

The I5 4690K is one of the best processors you can get at the moment (for gaming), it can be overclocked.
The motherboard is a very nice new motherboard which can support two 970's if you want to add another in future.
I included the Hyper 212 evo cooler but I don't know if it will be compatible with your case.

What is your case?
What is the model of your PSU (For overclocking)?

My case is Thermaltake SopranoRS 101
My PSU is - Chieftec CFT-750-14CS.
and I don't want to overclock, so it's not something that I take into account if it matters.

Anyway, I'll listen to you and buy these CPU and motherboard, just tell me (if you can) if it's compatible with my case
Also, if I'm not gonna overclock, can I pass on the cooler?

Your CPU is unlocked so if in future you want to you can overclock (it is easier than you think).
The cooler is not essential and you can easily use the stock heatsink if you are not overclocking. However, be warned that the cpu will run hotter and the fan will be louder. For ~$30 it is good value.
It is compatible with your case.
