Hello I am switching out my AMD gpu today for a new gtx nvidia card, and I'm quite nervous and really do not want to mess anything up. So what I have done so far is go to the control panel and uninstall AMD Catalyst Control Center and then restarted my computer. What else do I have to do? Do I have to go to Device Manager and uninstall the display drivers for the card? Or can I just shut my machine down now, put it the new gpu, restart, and download the lastest NVIDIA drivers and be good?

Solution
1) Uninstall any AMD/Catalyst software you see in the Uninstall section.

2) Shut down PC and swap to the new video card (including POWER and MONITOR)

3) Start up, then download the NVIDIA drivers (choose or have NVidia autoscan your system) and install.

Other:
I recommend you use the following settings:
Monitor:
- 1:1 scaling only (no scale by aspect)

NVidia Control Panel:
- Perform scaling on "GPU"
- Scale by Aspect

That will simply always output the full resolution of the monitor such as 1920x1080 rather than say 1024x768 for a game and have the monitor do the scaling. You don't have to do this but the video card MAY be faster at scaling than many monitors.

Uninstalling drivers isn't a bad idea, but it's usually not necessary. You probably should delete the drivers, install the Nvidia card, use Geforce Experience to get new drivers, and play games happily.

If you managed to uninstall without problems and warnings it is ok to just swap the cards.
If you had some kind of warning or error during uninstall use this software and swap after: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16748/
