how to tell if motherboard and or cpu/ram is fried?

my psu went bad in my old pc and i went replaced the board thinking it was the issue(didnt have psu tester at the time) andit fried my old 3870, is there anyway to tell if the motherboard got fried in the process? im about to order another psu to put in it and not sure if i need to purchase a motherboard as well, no smoke or anything came fromt he motherboard and i have another small psu thats around 300w i think, could i hook it up without a graphics card and see if it posts to the bios? amd phenom X4 965 and heres the motherboard

or should i order the psu now and put my gpu and everything in there and boot it up, and if the motherboard is fried, will it possibly fry my gpu? its a 670
