hi

I recently upgraded my ram from two different dual channel patriot 1600mhz xmp ram to
gskills F3-2400c10q-16gtx in order to have more system memory.

cpu 3820
win 8.1

upon making the upgrade I was not able to push the ram to the rated speed using either xmp profiles. after a little less then 2 week of running the ram at a lower frequency using block adjustments. window would not launch. It would go at loading screen and say my computer had a problem and gather information then reboot and try to repair itself and still not work.

so i put back my old rams and now some are flagged as abnormal.
I played around with positioning and tested them two at a time but it seams every time i put more then 2 dimms (regardless of what stick i use) it will start telling the 2 other i insert are abnormal. it will go as far as saying one of the new stick is good but the stick that work on last boot prior with only 2 dimm now doesn't work.

any tips? so far i believe it would be the motherboard or the memory controller in the cpu that giving out.

Solution
adjusted vccsa and vttcpu voltage all ram found. weird that i never had to play with that before. xmp profiles usualy did that trick on it's own for these dims. put new ram in clocked them at 1866mhz and it boot fine with little tweeking. may be a limitation of cpu and /or mother board that caused the issue.

thanks for the help.

I did. A block oc of 120. The thing is that now i had to go back to the old ram as it would not boot even at 1600mhz. Now the old stick say they
Are abnormal and switching them around doesnt show them to be in pairs

so far i have ran ALL ram i have (total of 8) in pair but could never go over that number, some say it may be an issue with my motherboard. someone even did go as far blaming the crystal on the motherboard (internal clock timing).

motherboard is an Asus X79 sabertooth
cpu is 3820k
