Hey guys im new to the forums and want some help from the pros.

I recently got told that i can build a $1500 AUD pc for my birthday. I would love some help for the components to build this pc. I also have a leeway of $200 or so. If the build consists of an i5 4690k and gtx 970 that would be awesome.

Hmm...I can't get it down without making a large sacrifice in quality somewhere:
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/crcZjX - AUD1653
I did a similar build on CentreComm - AUD1616

Intel Core i5-4690K Unlocked Quad-Core, 3.50GHz (3.9GHz Turbo), 6MB Cache, LGA1150 CPU *Intel Promotion* $289.00
Corsair Graphite Series 230T - ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, Orange on Black with Orange LED fans $105.00
Noctua NH-D14 Multi-Socket Performance CPU Cooler LGA2011, LGA2011-3 $89.00
8GB (2x4GB) Kit Kingston Hyper X DDR3-1866 CL10-PIN DIMM- Red $99.00
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Overclocked 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card $484.00
Gigabyte H97 Gaming LGA1150 ATX Motherboard $139.00
Sandisk Extreme II 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive SDSSDXP-120G-Q25 $99.00
WD 2TB Enterprise 3.5" Internal Hard Drive WD2000F9YZ $167.00
eVGA 750 Watt Supernova G2 Fully Modular 80+ Gold Rated Power Supply $145.00

My Build,(Hover over my Avatar) was AUD2250 delivered - I did the assembly myself and just recycled an old CD Drive

I guess you could use your old HDD, but you definitely want a good SSD in your new build - take of the WD drive, and there's AUD150ish

No, not really at stock speeds - its just that the K series is specifically unlocked for Overclocking - you can still OC the base 4690, you just wont be able to OC it very much though and the price diff is really only about $20 anyway.

You could drop the SSD and go a WD Black or Blue instead, but its a big performance drop - SSD's are generally up to 10 times faster Read/Write speeds than normal HDDs.

Maybe drop the Noctua-D14 Cooler back to a Cooler Master EVO 212
Maybe drop the PSU back to a cheaper one as well, maybe the Silverstone Strider Essential - http://www.centrecom.com.au/600w-silverstone-strider-essential-80-gold-power-supply - But this is considered a Tier3 PSU opposed to the EVGA G2 which is Tier 1. The Strider is only $80 though vs. $145 for the EVGA

As I said, you really loose a lot of performance by dropping these back to cheaper, inferior Quality and Performance parts. Honestly, I'd be trying to scrape up the extra $200 :)

That'll be heaps - pretty much the best you can do without going up to an i7 or extreme CPU cooling :). I think a lot of people don't realise the difference in performance and quality just $200 can make when building a custom PC - unfortunately nearly all parts are critical, and the ones that are less so aren't worth much anyway so no point scaling them back to save $5.

Tweaked it a bit - http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/s2QPcf

H105 has variable SP speed fans as opposed to the H100i that has AF fans running 100% all the time ($10 more)
That Antec 750W PSU was ok, but the EVGA G2 750W Supernova is a proven winner (and its $30 cheaper)
Switched the MOBO to a Ranger instead of the Hero - ($40 cheaper, and no diff in performance) - you will need to update the BIOS post install though.
SSD - Switched it for the Samsung 120GB 840 Evo - its much better than the Kingston and only $10-15 more expensive

The other reason the H105, MSI GTX970 and EVGA PSU go together so well (And not just because they're quality parts) - They create a near silent system - the PSU Fan doesn't start up until the PSU hits +50C in ECO mode, The GTX card, fans don't start until, +60C, the H105 will scale depending on CPU load - but the SP fans are dead silent at all but over 60% RPM anyway and the new Pumps, they chug away at 600rpm and don't make a sound. The H100i is a banshee by comparison.

EDIT - just realised my revised build is $40 cheaper - I'd up the SSD to the SanDisk Extreme II 120GB (AUD99)

for the all in one water cooling ive heard that the nzxt kraken x61 is better overall. should i prompt to change the h105 to the krakenx61?

Also im going to "try" overclocking is the ranger a good over clocking mobo too ?

The x61 is one of the best AIO coolers regarding Temps - it is not overly quiet at load though. If you looking for a Moderate to High Overclock, the H105 will be fine and very capable by comparison, it's silent at idle to about 40-50% - even at 70% its barely audible. It is loud when the fans are going flat out, but so is the X61. The X61 is geared more to ward a High OC, the 105 for a Moderate to High OC - nether are really suitable for sustained Extreme OC's, but you'll hit Max T a lot earlier with the 105 over the X61.

Just depends what you need at the end of the day and what you plan to OC - for instance if you set a manual voltage in the OC and leave it at that 24/7 the CPU will be hot, the Cooler will run loud - if you set a variable voltage and manage your Fans inline with Temp, then it will be Silent most of the time and only gear up under extreme load.

The X61 has a bigger Radiator than the 105, so it will be cooler, it also has LED lights if that's what you're in to :) The H105 is easier to install.

If you look at this review - http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/nzxt_kraken_x61_review/7
The H105 sits about 1deg Hotter than the H110 at Idle and about 4deg Hotter at Load - so its about the same as the X61 Silent, but gets smoked against x61 MAX by about 10-12degC at high loads.

This H75 comparison shows where the H105 and H110 compare against each other in the charts - http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/corsair_h75_review,11.html (I run a low to moderate OC and my H75 is fine for this.)

One thing you will notice on both those comparisons - the Noctua-D14 performs at around the same level as the H105 and X61 Silent at Idle and under load, beats both...so don't rule out the D14. The D15 is even better, but you'll have to see it will fit :)

The reviews are a guide only as the tests only show a single config for comparison - the results in your system will be vastly different but the temp spreads will remain pretty much constant between the units.

To summarise - the X61 will be all of 6 degC cooler than the H105 at load and about 1-1.5 degC at idle.
The SP fans on the H105 are quieter than the X61 fans, but only because they are slower and smaller
The X61 is a 27mm thick radiator measuring 140mm x 280mm long
The H105 is a 38mm thick radiator measuring 120mm x 240mm long
The X61 gets the better cooling performance due to the larger Radiator area and the faster airflow. The H105 falls off because of the smaller fans forcing air through the thicker radiator.

But don't forget the most important thing - the X61 has pretty LED lights :)

The Ranger was made for Overclocking :) Has all the software to back it up - make sure you update the BIOS as well, this certainly fixed some instability issues with my build.

Ok, so the Noctua D15 will fit in your build - http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/pKH4jX
Its $40 cheaper than the X61 and the H105 too, and its performance is the same as the H105 - http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/noctua-nh-d15-review,11.html
Personally, I like how neat and tidy the Watercoolers look inside the case - they improve airflow for other components in there as well - the D15 is huge and is a massive lump next to your GFX card and RAM too - is that worth $40? I say yup - stick with the 105 or x61.

EDIT - Also note, all the tests on the AIO Water coolers are done on their default settings, i.e. they are setup as intakes to the case, I recommend running the fans on the radiators as exhausts instead as you will likely not have a filter for the radiator, and clogged radiators are very difficult to clean without having to remove them from the Case. If you have enough Case fans, the inside of the unit will only be 5degC approx. hotter than outside Ambient anyway, so unless you really need to pinch those extra couple of degrees on your OC, it makes no difference.

well i really dunno what to get now since u added in the d14 and d15. IMO led lights pretty much is the reason im getting a h100i or a kraken x61. haha.....

i might leave my pc on for around like 6-8 hrs? so which cooler would u recommend?

im fairly new to this computer overclocking thing and yeh. tbh all i want is a nice, cooled and powerful pc whic might last a couple of years. :D
