Hello all!

Just got a new r9 290 to put in my rig but I just had issues setting it up until now. The issue now is that everything in the computer seems to boot up normally but nothing shows up on the monitor (Q led VGA is staying on too, little detail). So the fans are turning on the GPU so I don't think it is a power issue. I also don't think its DOA since it worked at first but it crashed under load I think because it only had 1 psu cable attached to the GPU (the cable that separated at the end to 8 and 6 pin but I corrected to 2 cables but it did nothing better) and everything deteriorated since then. I am starting to run out of ideas gaaahhh... Any help would truly be appreciated.

Update 1.0 : My R9 290 works in Safe mode so probably a driver issue
Update 1.1 : Fresh installed 14.2 driver and everything started gliching and crashed. back to square one! My next step is the install of the stable 13.12 driver.
Update 1.2 : Black screen again on boot up... What the heck is wrong?!?

Cheers.

Specs:
i7-3770K
Maximus V formula
Gigabyte R9 290 Windforce (hopefully)
840 Evo ssd
Corsair H100i
Corsair AX760
16gb Ram

Solution
Same problem.
Any AMD driver can do nothing to solve it. With the new ones (14.4-14.12) get well-known for "r9 290" owners BSOD "x016 atikmpag.sys".
Just thinking of RMA'ing it.

Thanks for the answer!
I will try it again (by removing the card since a black screen is not very useful to access the bios) but I did set the bios to use GPU before without success

Plug it in the vga connector on your mobo and not your gpu to acccess bios

Did you try with another cable?

I pulled it out and looked close: unfortunately I've got a REV 1.0 (it's written just above the PCIe fingers). A friend of mine (a hardware-support man) says that 50% of this "revision 1.0 r9 290's" are not fully compatible with the official drivers. And if it doesn't work properly, the best way is RMA.
