Two 970s will perform significantly better in games that support SLI, and the majority of modern games do support it.

You will notice the difference even more if you are using a high resolution monitor like 1440p or higher, the performance of SLI is almost necessary to get good framerates.

Here is also another argument: in the games that support SLI, 2x 970 will trump 980, and more often than not it is the diff between playable and unplayable. In games that don't, the difference isn't that large, usually not the difference between playable and unplayable.

assuming 50% scaling for two 970's, it will beat a 980 by about 30% (the better the scaling, the greater the difference), a single 970 is about ~15% worse than a 980.

However, this argument ignores taking into account that your rig must support SLI.

i was talkin about the new gigabyte graphics card gigabyte g1 gtx 970 gaming not old evga gtx 970 cuz in the reviews i have seen on youtube the gigabyte g1 gtx 980 benchmarks beats the titan black edition and gtx 780 ti and even the duil gpu 690 from evga so i was askin if one (g1 gtx 980 can beat 2 g1 gtx 970 ) in performance and thanks jim for answerin me so quickly :)

Whether EVGA or the G1, it doesn't change much. The difference between the G1 and the EVGA is not that significant. The G1 970 SLI will destroy the G1 980 in pretty much every way.

no i think there is difference between them and its huge since the g1 980 has just released and with price about 600$
and the performance is stunnig i would rather want if some one can do some bechmarks about this subject

jim if u can see the prplm is no one has done that benchmark yet two g1 gtx 970 vs one gtx 980 so we cant just guess the performance how it will be since the g1 gtx 980 beat every gpu you throw at except the titan z i haven't seen a vidieo between these two

Here is a comparison of the G1 980 vs the reference model 980. It is better than the reference for sure, but unless I am misunderstanding you, the difference isn't nearly as much as you are indicating. Am I missing something?

now i can see no im the one who was wrong now u said that is the two g1 gtx 970 can preform better than one g1 gtx 980 i wish if there are some benchmarks or even a score and thanks in advance you was very helpful jim :)

Yes, but only the exact fps changes, the general trend is similar.

You can search for SLI 970's reviews (there are plenty of them), they test several games with SLI 970's and usually compare it to single 970 and 980. SLI 970 would be close to 780ti sli in Jim's quote.
