Hi all, glad to be a part of the Tom's Hardware forums for the first time. Having a strange issue with my new PC build. Components below:

  • AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core CPU
Antec KUHLER H2O 1250 98.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ MoBo
    G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 RAM
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" SSD (where Windows is)
    Seagate 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid HDD/SSD
HIS Radeon R9 280 3GB IceQ OC Video Card
BitFenix Pandora Core MicroATX Mid Tower Case
    Cooler Master 750W ATX12V PSU

When I attempt to run Java-related applications (Eclipse, Minecraft, etc.), after around 30 minutes of beginning to run the program, the entire computer will instantly blackscreen. All fans, drives, etc. keep spinning as though nothing went wrong. I have to hold the power button to turn the computer off.

If I attempt to reboot immediately, the fans, drives, etc. will act as though everything is fine but will not POST. No display, no beep from the mobo, nothing at all except for fans and drives spinning up. I have to leave the PSU completely unplugged for several hours in order to fix the issue - and then the PC will boot up perfectly, as though nothing went wrong. No "Windows did not shut down properly" screen or anything.

I can run non-Java games perfectly and the computer handles the CPU/graphics/heat/electrical loads fine. I can play Far Cry 4 for several hours with no issues whatsoever. However, after 20-30 minutes of playing Minecraft, even on low settings, the thing just dies and I have to unplug it wait several hours to even be able to boot it up again.

Is it right to assume that something's up with my video card? I've made sure that all drivers, BIOS, etc. is fully updated, and I've only had the build running for about a week now, so I haven't had time to accumulate any viruses/malware (even so, I've run complete scans several times in safe mode to be sure). If I need to RMA the card I'd rather do it sooner rather than later, as I just purchased it not too long ago and it's still under its very extensive 60-day warranty.

Thanks for your help!

yeah thought that was a little obvious.lol.go to the control panel>administrative tools>event viewer and see if any of the logged errors will point you in the right direction.it can be tedious if there are a lot of errors but each has an explanation that can really help diagnose problems.if there are a lot of errors you can always clear the logs and wait for the symptom to replicate itself and then check the logs again.

There are absolutely no events from around the time that the crash happened. The computer simply... turned off, and refused to POST for over 8 hours.
