Got my MSI GTX 970 4G on Monday install it straight away no problems. When I placed my pc onto the desk I could hear a noise coming from my graphic card only when gaming. At the intro of Far Cry 4 the noise gets louder and when in game gets lower. Anyway Monday I'll send the card back for a new one. I did some search on forums and found out that the coil whine could be caused by the quality of the PSU, I 've got the CX750M.
What do you guys think should I still go with MSI and change the PSU to SeaSonic 650W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified and see what happens or just get the ASUS STRIX.

Same thing with my EVGA 970 FTW on AC:unity, H1Z1, GTA4, Alien Isolation. Basically antime the card goes over 65-70% power it begins an electric "coil whine". Did your new card have the same issue? I plan on doing my RMA asap... :(

And My CS750M died 2 days after use with this card, the PSU was 1 month old.

I had the coil whine all the time when playing, the noise stopped only when switching to desktop. I tried different games like FarCry4, AC Black Flag, BF4 and Americas Army - PG. I sent it back and I've got a refund back but at this stage I don't know what GTX 970 to get, so confused. I don't have enough money to get the 980.

Galax/Galaxy/KF2 would be my choice, they have gone out of their way to make their cards coil whine free.

It's probably a great card, but you know that felling when you just wanna get one of the top well known brands. Anyway I am between getting the EVGA FTW+ ACX 2.0 or ASUS STRIX

'' but coil whine is pretty normal with graphics cards '' maybe for you I don't spend that kind of money to put up with it .. they see you coming on that issue ..,easy money .. and if its normal why are there all the complaints ?? why do you read up on stuff like this ??

http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-970-Coil-Whine-Concerns

why do they accept rma 's on that ?? its not normal its cheap .. them guys may just got 50-75 bucks invested in making the card and sell to you at 350 bucks with the high quality parts as stated above .. now your down to luck of the draw on weather your card has all the issues as seen all over the web...

I surely did not build this nice quite rig just to spend that money on a card to hear all that noise .. but then maybe you enjoy that cause its normal to you???

They are one of the biggest brands.

But anyway, apparently the issue is that we have never seen clock speeds this high on graphics cards.

was looking at a review of this evga card [gtx960 ] and see the inductors that been claimed to cause the whine in cards has been changed compaired to the ones in the 970/980 ??

looks like its got a white part that may insulate the part and help prevent the coil whine or a attempt to revolve it ??? and will it be changed on the ''newer'' 970/980 cards from evga ??

new kind

old kind

may be all wrong on this but it did catch my eye

I guess its now too late but you now see the new gtx 970 issue [a assume all brands [

http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/79925-nvidia-explains-geforce-gtx-970s-memory-problems/

find out and let us know how your new card works out ..... I was looking hard at the same card and as before another 970 issue pops up and stops me .. now I wonder what will they find next with them and I guess save up some more for the 980 ??? just don't know I guess i'll keep my cash and keep running the card I got ???

I've experienced coil whine with my MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G when framerates are high (4400 Hz on the Crysis main menu anyone?), but limiting the framerate has instantly fixed it in all cases. I use D3D Override to enable V-Sync and Triple Buffering.

I really wanted to get the 980 but it's way to expensive for my budget, even for this I paid extra 50€. There are problems with all 970's, I even rang the shops and ask them to recommend me a card, they couldn't. So I said to myself if I still get a noise card at least its powerful. In the end its just a matter of luck with all 970's I will let you guys know how the card runs when arrives. If its still loud I will send it back again and again :)

as far as that memory thing I would feel if all the 970's did that the the ones that were benched tested in reviews did it too. so as far as scores go that's on the good [??] and performance is the same overall....

and as I say its not like you paid for a full fledged 980 card to start with ... and the 970 is not the 980 in anyway -- its a lesser card we all know that .. so really in the end what did they expect ??? 980 full performance at 200 bucks less ??

the 970 is a card made from parts that did not cut it for a 980 and are salvaged / hand me down .. and this is why its cheaper and a lesser card , but here they are crying over things .. boo hoo

if a guy wanted the full real deal to start with he would of got the 980 -- if the 970 does what it shows in the reviews bench marks as shown with just the 3.5 gb memory then how are you hurt by that for 200 bucks less ???

True, if I knew there are so many problems with the 970's I would've kept my 760

if it holds to what they claim it will do and you see a big improvement you did not go wrong ?? dude I said this about the 970 cards since the first day they came out and got bashed for it here at toms .. now there seeing the light ...

I can see that it's all about marketing here. Very dirty way to convince someone to get the 980. If 970's are so faulty I wonder if the 960's are the same.

I tried that with the MSI 970 but nothing happened didn't even reduce the noise, anyway that's history now, I'll wait for my evga and see how it goes, if the new card gets noise I'm moving to AMD.

that's right keep limiting your performance card until it works right that's why you bought it right ??

this is what I don't understand how folks think or believe this is all normal .. as I said I buy a new top end card to crank things up not turn things off or down ????

also I tried to tell you above the evga ssc+ was the way to go over the ftw + [opinion]

try putting the fan speed at 50% and limit your FPS

try putting the fan speed at 50% and limit your FPS

why not buy a good card that works right ??? don't you get what I said above ??? as for as what you say I may as well just got a different card that fully works correctly ??? or just kept the old card that I did not have to do any of this ... how stupid

how is it stupid its some ideas to save him so he doesn't waste more money if hes gonna buy another one
