Solution
Go for GTX 960 if you only play games that are not Graphic Intense. Lower Power Consumption and beats GTX 760 at almost same price. R9 290 power consumption is to high and i dont know if your PSU is capable of Handling it.

Out of those the r9 290 is the most powerful and should handle 2k just fine i like the sapphire version the most myself but they are all pretty much the same thing. However you would be better off getting a gtx 970 it will do better and i think its around the same price as a 290 depending on where you live.

Have u considered getting a 970? It's like 30 degrees cooler than a 290, which is a significant difference. If u choose to get a 290 prepare to have ur room warmed up and also a 970 since the temps are cooler would be more ideal in a SLI configuration if u ever decide to do so.

if u choose a 290 tho, the best one is tri-x according to some comparison vids i've seen. it's runs coolest

Because the 970 just runs cooler in general regardless of the cooler. The 290 uses a Hawaii based gpu that just runs extremely hot and sucks a lot of power.

I think your comparing two completely different cooling solutions on two different GPU's which isn't fair.

Take the gigabyte gtx 970 windforce which runs way cooler than the r9 290 from Gigabyte (it also has windforce cooler).

The sapphire tri x probably has the best cooler. I dont like amd gigabyte cards go look at the reviews on newegg for some reason they seem to fail a lot more than the other 290s.

That depends on what graphics options you deem acceptable. Some games will struggle and you may have to turn down graphics settings quite a bit to get the frame rate over 60 in some games. I wouldn't skimp on the gpu if you want to game at over 1080p its by far the most important thing governing how well your games will play.

GTX970 and R9-290/X cards are in the same performance class.
You will be hard pressed to differentiate in actual usage.
It will take a benchmark to tell the difference.

The GTX970 and GTX980 cards are the new Maxwell architecture which is much more power efficient.
They will run on a 520w psu.
The R9-290 cards will need about a 650w psu.

The R9 cards are older gen and get their speed from being highly overclocked.
Sometimes that shows up as being less reliable.
On newegg, I see about 20% chance of problems with R9 cards, compared to about 10% with GTX970/980 cards.

Fancy coolers sell, so expect to pay a price premium for them.
They do cool efficiently, but the heat goes into your case where case cooling needs to deal with it.
Stock blower type coolers send the heat straight out the back of the case, but they don't have the looks.
--------------------bottom line-------------------
My pick would be the least expensive GTX970.

Well, it means i will buy at least R9 290 or GTX970. Sorry for my silly questions but would someone explain me which one is more important - memory bandwith or memory clock. Why GTX970 is faster than R9 290 when R9 290 has 2 times more bandwith compared to GTX970 (512 vs 256), i mean i can overclock memory frequency of R9 290, but i can't increase the bandwith of GTX 970.

Because the 970 is newer and uses a more efficient manufacturing process and doesn't need a massive memory bus to perform. The 970 is better and more powerful than the 290 in every way.

Hmmm... if i go for GTX 970 i will have to change my CPU several months later, because i will not have enough budget for new CPU. From what does fps depend on mainly? CPU or GPU?

Why would you have to change your cpu? what do you have now? And the gpu is by far the most important thing in gaming as long as your cpu is good enough to make use of it.
