I have an SSD and HDD.
I just installed everything. but usually on our household we tend to save everything on the desktop, i believe that the desktop is stored on our C drive which is the SSd which has limited space, do you think its possible to direct all of the desktop items to the harddrive?

Solution

Actually, if you're doing THAT, you could: %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts

*but, basically, you have to take the load off the SSD:

  • ■Turn off the Index, Indexer Status Gadget 1.1.1 (@softpedia.com/get/Windows-Widgets/System-Utilities/Indexer-Status-Gadget.shtml)
■Tick-off the default option, from the HDD Properties, for: "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties". Screenshot @s18.postimg.org/61w641qk9/2015_01_10_5_42_47.png (Just use Ignore All, when it pops-up)
■Disable Offline Files, from the Control Panel, Sync Center; the Run... CMD for that is: 'mobsync'...

Seriously though your SSD should be your OS disk labelled as C with all your windows installer files on it and any other important stuff the computer needs to work. Everything on the desktop such as pictures of cats, essays or movies should be dragged and dropped to the HDD which should show up in my computer, in short if i understand your question correctly yes you can move anything you choose to your HDD, just keep all your important stuff that the computer needs to work on the faster drive, the SSD.

I find its easier for people who aren't too familiar with computers to create a folder in capital letters inside their OS disk labelled 'INSTALLERS' in which you place any software you download or driver files etc.

Also if you run something called CC cleaner and malwarebytes this might help increase the space you have on your disk and possibly improve speed.

Thanks

■Disable Windows Defender - and lock down teh Internet Exploder, the CMD is 'inetcpl.cpl'; set the Security and Privacy tabs to the fullest, switch it into the Work Offline mode (from the File Menu); it should even prevent the Windows Explorer from connecting, for all sorts of things (& doing some caching, too :))
■Disable Hibernation (and get rid of the file, automagically), by running a CMD prompt as Administrator; have a look @ https://support.microsoft.com/kb/920730
There's a LOT more to it (more 2 preserving your SSD), however - I hope that the few things listed here, off the top of my head, will be of some use to you! =)

P.S.
Indexing is the 'Windows Search', 'WSearch' Service... Can be set to Disabled. The only *adverse effect* it'll have is that your searches will take (a lot, depending) longer.

^^ While you're @ it, perhaps decide what 2 do w/teh Prefetch, also..:)

Edit: *another Run... list @ symantec.com/connect/articles/list-run-commands-windows-7-and-8

*oh and to move the Libraries, maybe also check this out: howtogeek.com/howto/26559/change-the-default-save-folder-for-windows-7-libraries-to-something-else-like-your-dropbox/

Edit2: You could, perhaps also, decide to have your swap file on the *regular* HDD; the ideal scenario for this, however, would be to get 'enough' RAM - as to minimize the swap file usage... but, whatever the case, have it set to the recommended value, Custom Size and NOT managed automatically by Windows (so that it won't be Dynamic!).

:))
