If I disable C6/C7 power states, will that affect the performance?

I'm planning to buy an i5-4690 but I have the XFX Pro 450w PSU, which doesn't support haswell CPUs (at least officially). I read that if I disable the C6/C7 power states in the bios, it will be fine.
Will this action affect the performance of other components at all? I mean when I'm on Windows desktop or even in games? Thanks!

I doubt my psu is 'haswell' ready, I've had it for a number of years. All I did was disable c6/c7 and it's fine running a 4690k. Those are deeper, lower power sleep states for further efficiency (more of an asset to laptops where battery life is important). The issue is a non haswell compatible psu may likely shut off or be unable to power back up after reaching those extended sleep states, that's all. If they're disabled it becomes a non issue.

No it will not. It will just affect the low-power sleep states

No it wont. However if your overcloking some people recommend you turn it off for higher more stable overclocks some say leaving it on has no effect i turn mine off. Im not sure about psu compatibility i would assume it would be fine but if a lot of people say turn it off then turn it off it doesn't save a whole lot of energy anyways.

So does it worth it at all to spend more on a haswell ready psu, or I'm just good to go with the current one?

my PC is giving me random shutdowns when i browse the internet & watch movies. I have an Antec tp-750.
are u sure it won't damage the other components ?
also, i have 2 setting of C7 in the BIOS; one is C7 & other is C7s, should i disable them both ?

Usman Anwar, you should probably start your own thread if you're having difficulty with something. That way people can respond and try to help you.

There are many reasons for random shutdowns, nothing suggests it's c states. C states are sleep states and the issue with haswell and using non haswell compliant psu's is when the pc enters the sleep state it uses new low power sleep modes.

If everything were compliant it would allow a 'deeper' sleep state that uses a bit less power than previous sleep states. The issue when using a non compliant power supply is when bringing the pc out of 'sleep mode' it won't 'wake up'. It will force the user to switch the power off at the back of the pc and perform a hard reset/hard boot. That's the only issue facing c6/c7 extended sleep states, not random crashing while using the pc. That's a different problem entirely.

Eventually hard resets 'could' damage components though there's no way to say for certain how many times it will take for that to happen. It's better to avoid it if possible. It could be a power issue from the wall, it could be the psu, it could be a software problem.
