I installed 2 gig of ram in my optiplex 280. I moved my 2 512 to slot 3 and 4 and added 1 gig in slot 1 and 2. When i ran a memory check I had 1 gig in slot 1 and 512 in slot 2 and 1 gig in slot 3 and 512 in slot 4. Do I need to change them?

Solution
You should switch them to match the reported configuration - put the 1GB sticks in slots 1 and 3, and the 512MB sticks in slots 2 and 4. It looks like your system identified them and is using them at their proper capacities, but probably in single channel mode since your channels aren't matched. If you match them, your system should default to dual-channel which is better.
