Hello guys !

I have a little problem. I thought my i5 was at 4.8Ghz all this time but today i opened cpuid and i saw it @ 4.2. I did everything i could think and still cant get past 4.2. Is my z77 fault or what ?

Thank you

Solution
Are you using the Latest BIOS Version for your Motherboard? Perhaps there is an issue with that. Usually when Changes in the UEFI BIOS are made but do not have the proper effect it is due to the firmware.

I have a z77 mobo with i5 3570K
I followed this guide to overclock the above specific combo
http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-asrock-edition

I had 2 different i5 3570K-s. I never gave it too much overvolt and my experience:

@ 4,4 OCCT / Prime Runs for hours without ANY problems
BUT: In WoW I had critical errors while raiding :D

So I went back to 4,3 GHz and accepted that if I wanted more GHzs I would need more volts which would be more heat, which whould suck.
I am happy that I have an i5 @ 4,3 That is COMPLETELY silent using Thermalright Macho Rev. A

Try reading through the guide, but unless you wanna break some bench score I don't see the reason to constantly use any CPU on 4,8.

What vcore are you using? I can get my i5 4690K to 4.6ghz really easy. But you could of gotten a bad chip. :)

@TechyInAZ: I am using +0,023 Turbo voltage, and 43 multipiler, do you think it qualifies as bad, that I "might" be unstable at 44 mult with 0,023 Turbo?

@Prototype: Please desribe what happens, and how you not get past, maybe not me but someone else can help you.
Can you not apply the setting for a multipiler above 42, or if you can what is the first instability issue that happens? No boot / BSOD? if BSOD what err code? etc..
Btw its also important to have a nice power supply, instability in the CPU current could virutually make ANY cpu unstable.

I have something similar called Asus multicore enhancement and it forces the turbo frequency of the CPU as the base clock.

Try turning off XMP and turning off any enhancements.

Is your overclock with the turbo multiplier or the regular multiplier?

To Vitric9, what's your vcore? And your LLC?

In reply to TechInAZ, Right now my Vcore is 1.225v, though CPU-Z will read 1.232v. in the UEFI, LLC is High(50%) Also CPU Current/Overcurrent is 140%. It defaults to that once the ratio is set past 44-45...
Now I do have some other things set but they should not affect the CPU Ratio and this issue puzzles me , that of prototype18's i5 3570k+Asrock Z77 Extreme4-M. We a very similar setup as far as features go and with that MB that i5 could hit 4.6GHz.

I tried reflashing bios. This time i used windows version. And it worked. I am now sitting at 4.7 Ghz with 0.032 turbo boost voltage and other setting stock.I did 2 hours of prime and seems normal. Ill game some now and see how it goes. I also did try flashing the BIOS using instant flash.I found out that was the problem locking me @4.2ghz. Idk how but that really worked. Thank you guys
