I'm looking for a laptop for my son that will play Mine Craft decently (maybe WoW too). I know I need to look at the processor, ram and graphic card. But I'm about 5 years behind the times of what's good.
What's the bare minimum? What do I want to look for or stay away from? Max money is $500, hoping for $350-400.

He currently uses a Toshiba SateliteL455 - intel celerion, 3g ram, graphics are whatever was standard with it. Can I just upgrade this one? I'm comfortable opening up computers adding/changing stuff.

Specs on your current laptop:

The integrated graphics on your laptop are the 4500M.

Recommended specs for Minecraft.

As you can see, you do not have a dedicated graphics chip, and that puts the laptop below the minimum recommended specs. You will not be able to upgrade the laptop to put in a graphics card.
