Upgrading to a 280x, need some advice on choosing a card for liquid cooling.

I am planning an upcoming major overhaul of my 3 year old gaming rig, and after much deliberation, I have settled on an R9 280X as my next GPU. I plan on doing liquid cooling for the card (kraken x31 and g10 bracket), but I am having trouble choosing the card itself. With so many different cards out there, each with different cooling solutions, it's overwhelming.

Basically, it comes down to this: Which card is going to be the easiest to remove the stock cooler and add the g10 bracket? The card that I'm considering getting is the Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3GB WINDFORCE. Is this card an appropriate candidate for liquid cooling, or is there a different 280X that is going to be a better candidate for liquid cooling?

Other information on upcoming overhaul (in case it is needed): i5-4460, ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard, 16GB, G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory, Corsair RM 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler. (I didn't include HDD info, or various other components. Please let me know if I need to list them as well.)

My main usage for this is gaming, but I also do video editing/rendering.

If any more information is needed, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any and all help that is rendered!

that overheating problem only happen on reference cooler. most of custom cooled 290/290X doesn't have that problem. in the end it is your choice . but since you're the type that is no going to upgrade your system often 290/290X will be much better for you for long term.
as for 280X i think even the air cooler will be fine. also why 280X and not 290X/290? while performance really is not that bad but it is based on the first iteration of GCN. it will miss a lot of new feature than only available on newer GCN based card. if you ask me 280X should move into lower mid range territory already or even entry level but due to some issue (that is from gpu maker itself and TSMC) it is still regarded as an high end card today.

I've opted for the 280X mainly due to budget constraints. I would go for the 290, but I've read that there are major overheating issues with it. I don't plan on doing any overclocking, and I've yet to make the leap past 1920x1080, but I am anticipating the (eventual) commercial release of the Oculus Rift.

As things stand now, my budget is $1500, and my current shopping list is straddling that line.

My current configuration (don't laugh):

Athlon phenom X2 555: radeon HD 5570: 4GB ram...so, crappy. The only thing that will be surviving from my current rig is the case, an NZXT lexa S.

After reading these responses (and some more research), I have decided to go with the Gigabyte 290X windforce OC without the liquid cooling. It ends up being a bit cheaper overall, which is good (I can get a few extra fans in case they are needed), and I guess I can always get the liquid cooling later on if it is needed. Thanks for the help, guys!
