Hello,

I'm assuming this is the most common errors with Bios update. I have a Gateway FX6860 desktop with A02-A2 bios version. I need to install the new A03-A3 drivers from the Gateway site, however I get the "ROM file size does not match existing BIOS" error. It seems like file sizes don't match.

I've tried researching all over the web for the past few days and most common answer is "get the right driver", this is the right driver. I've already tried window, dos and USB boot to install the update, but I keep getting the same message.

Any help would be much appreciated! It'll probably take a genius to figure this one out.

Often you will get that error if you try to use a bios that is not compatible. First, do you really need to do a bios update for a reason?

With a quick look at the Gateway site, I see a P03.A3 bios for that model with the notation BIOS (for device with Ivy Bridge & USB 3.0 Supported). Is that the bios that you are trying to install?

Thank you for a quick respond! Yes, that's the update I'm trying to use.

I think it might help the USB 3.0 problem I'm having with my external audio card. It's popping and cracking when I'm playing games. I'm hoping the new update would solve the problem.

Yes, it has 2x USB 3.0 ports. Not sure if they're native. They are blue color in the back of the PC compared to all the black USB.

Yes, they use an add on chip, but I should have been clearer that I was distinguishing from an add on PCIe card based USB 3.0.

You might try another download of the bios to insure that the download wasn't corrupted, but it seems that should be useable on your machine.

I've tried many downloads and even sites, still same issue.

Is there any way to "force the updates" so it skips the file size comparison?

I didn't think to check the sound card, I assumed it supported USB 3.0, I do notice better sound quality. I guess I can live with an older bios if it means a bit of lower quality sound.

Thanks for all your help
