Hi,

I put together my new PC last night and installed the OS in the morning. I don't have a CD drive in my system and installed the OS via USB. When I set everything up, it didn't have any internet access. I downloaded the intel LAN drivers from another computer and installed them using the USB stick.

This morning, my internet seemed to work fine. I was able to connect to sites using Chrome. I noticed this afternoon, however, that every time I went to Facebook, Chrome said the connection was not private. Then, an hour later, it started doing this for almost all websites across all browsers. They all say something similar: the certificates are out of date, are phony, etc, and the website (even Google Inbox), can't be trusted, so I can't go there. I noticed there were 64 updates to install and thought this would fix the issue. After updating, the issue persists.

This isn't happening on any of the other computers in my house, and I was wondering how I could fix this.

Solution
How the hell did you get a virus in less than 24 hours? Jesus, stop going to porn sites! Just kidding. It does sound like an infection though. I'd reinstall and if it happens again I'd get different installation media. Could be wherever you got your installation media from has been compromised.

If you have a valid license key you can download the Windows 8.1 media creator app at the following link which will download a clean ISO from Microsoft and then allow you to create installation media on either DVD or USB. If you have an OEM computer or have registered a computer with a licensed version of 8 or 8.1 it may not even require you activate if you did so originally using a Microsoft account or if the OEM pre-activated it. Either way, if you have a valid key, you're good.

Do i wipe the drive first and then install? Do I do this entirely from the USB stick with the windows OS on it? I downloaded the file from Microsoft's site.

Ah, just saw your second post. I'll try that. If I only have one USB stick (I have no other portable HDD's with me, and can't fit a CD drive into this computer), will that compromise the installation?

Followed your advice yesterday and no more issues! Thanks for the help.
