Hey guys (and possibly girls),
I have come to an impasse. I have an AMD FX-9590 (the 220W TDP scares me).
I have two options:
1. Put a Corsair H105 water cooling unit in my NZXT Phantom (original)
2. I buy a Cooler Master HAF XB EVO and stick with my Cooler Master V8 GTS.
If I got the HAF XB, I would also consider switching out the V8 for a Noctua NH-D15 or a compatible water cooling unit for that case (better or equal to the H105).
My current setup (in the Phantom) is this:
-Intake:
Front - 1x COUGAR Vortex HDB 140mm
Side (left) - 2x Cooler Master SickleFlow 120mm
-Exhaust:
Top - 1x Cooler Master MegaFlow 200mm
Back - 1x Cooler Master SickleFlow 120mm
HAF XB setup:
-Intake:
Front - 2x COURGAR Vortex HDB 140mm
-Exhaust:
Back - 1x COUGAR Vortex HDB 120mm
**Top - Compatible water cooling unit (if I switch out the V8)
The Phantom setup is not optimal, the intake is positioned to cool hard drives. Seeing that I have an SSD, that sort of makes it pointless to have that many fans there. The only reason I'm not utilizing my 200mm side intake (which is what I really want) is because of the sheer size of the V8. I only have about 1/4" clearance between it and my side panel. If I got the H105, then I would be able to use the 200mm side intake.
If I got the HAF XB, I would consider getting water cooling. That being said, I would also consider doubling up on my intake fans, resulting in 4 (2 fans in one space) 140mm fans. I want to have a positive pressure system, but I just really need to be able to keep the lava monster that is the FX-9590 cool.
TL;DR - I want to keep my FX-9590 cooled properly. Either I buy a water cooling unit for my NZXT Phantom or get a Cooler Master HAF XB EVO.
Thank you for your input. As always, any and all recommendations are welcome.
P.S. - To the mods, this is a copy of another thread in the Systems section. It seems that the post wasn't getting any attention, so I duplicated it on here. Sorry.
