Thanks for your reply. The cable is good. All other devices including another laptop connect fine. It is my bosses computer. It connects at her house, but not at mine. I am wondering if when it was set up, that somehow it is set to only connect to her service maybe?

Please note that if such settings exists and if you change them, the lap will not connect to the other network properly. So make notes of the original settings before changing.

first one: Proxy server
Go to control panel --> internet options --> Connections--> select the wifi network --> settings-->
Does it check the the "Use the proxy server" and typed an IP address? Then uncheck it and see whether it has solved the issue.

2nd one:
Right click on wifi network icon on the task bar--> Open network and sharing center -->select change adapter settings --> right click on the wifi connection --> properties --> select "Internet protocol V4"--> Properties --> Check whether some custom IPs are there. If so, set them to "Obtain IP address automatically"

Please note that once automatic mode selected, the data will reset. Make a note before selecting this.

i have the same problem, and the only way i can access the internet is by connecting to pocket wifi that is connected to dsl router..I have seen other threads about how to resolve this problem but none have worked for me.
I'm not a technician or anything inclined to programming, just pakialamera hehehe, I discovered the resolution that worked for me and thought I would share it.

just follow this easy peasy tutorial
1.right click on wifi signal icon
2.click "open network and sharing center"
3. click "Change adapter settings"
4.right click "wireless network connection"
5. click on "properties"
6. new small window will open where it says NETWORKING at the top....click CONFIGURE
7. click "ADVANCED"
it will show properties that are available for this network adapter
8. click 802.11n Bandwidth and on the right side change the value from "20MHz only" to "20MHz/40MHz auto"

and taaa-daaaa its like a miracle..... i finally have internet access, directly connected to our dsl router!!!!!

Sometimes its due to ip conflict with your wifi and lan.. Just follow these steps
Open Network & Sharing
Click on the wifi u r connected
Go to properties
Now click on IPV4 and again click properties of it. Click advance at bottom and go to DNS.
If you find any ip there delete it.. Your net will now work fine
