i got a new build bout a month ago, the msi gtx 970 with a i5 4690k on a gigabyte z97x-sli and im new to the OC world

im using afterburner and i increased the clock core and memory core to 200 and power limit to 110.

i have crashed yet which is a good thing but can i got higher? if i crash will that mess up my GPU? also what should i look for to know im stable?

Solution
Unigine heaven for stability test

And no, if crash occurs it only because its unstable

But do not exceed the power limit of the gpu and monitor temperatures during stability test

the best way to get the highest oc for any gpu is raising the core clock incrementally (like maybe 20MHz) and run gpu benchmark software/high powered game untill you start to see glitches on the screen and then go a few increments back
though i believe you wont get more than 3-4 fps better in the end and it is using more power---in the end it is your choice
