Why was the new BIOS version not lost when there was no battery power?

I had updated the BIOS version from 2014 to 2105, then I replaced the on-board battery. The version remains 2105 after replacement. Why was the new version not lost when there was no battery power? My motherboard is ASUS H81M-A

Yes, different chips/memory types. BIOS uses data stored in CMOS.
CMOS is volatile (loses data if not powered) whereas BIOS is EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory) type.
