I built a computer yesterday and I put everything together. When I try to turn it on it turns on for a second then turns off but when it turns off the light for the gpu and the motherboard stay on but the fans stop. The weird thing is when I disconnect the cpu cable from the psu then the lights stay on and the fan stays on but it doesn't boot up. I tried the paperclip thing and it worked fine. I went through the list of no boot problems and none of them solved my problem.

My Parts:
ASUS M5A78L-M LX
AMD FX 6300
Corsair 550M
Air 240 Case
Rip Jaws 1866 2x4 gb ram
750ti

Things I think it is:
Not compatible ram - The ram that I have is not on the list of rams on the motherboard manual.
Power unit cable problem seen in the last post here - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/273415-31-build-starts-second-repeats
Broken motherboard.

If you need any other information please ask

Solution
As it says in an another thread here (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2488773/post-desperate-hours-googleing-solution-x48.html)

"If the CPU fan does spin and no beeps with only CPU and CPU fan installed, then it's a board or CPU issue. "

Since you already got a new MOBO my guess would be that it's the cpu.

Hope this helps :)

Ok just did that and it still did the same thing. If I didn't have the thermal paste well applied would the computer not start?

If it is a heating issue, the CPU needs to reach an unsafe temperature before it shuts off. How long have you waited after each attempted boot? Give it some time to cool down, and then boot up again. If you still shut down right away, I doubt it is a heating issue on the CPU.

Perhaps you could attempt to boot with the HDDs or SSDs unplugged to see if you at least see a "no boot option" screen. if you don't get to BIOS, it is probably something with with hardware installation.

Hi,

just to clarify, when you wrote that you bough a new "pcu", did you mean cpu or psu?

Anyway, I know this sounds stupid, but is your PSU connected to an extension cord (the one in which you can plug in more power cables) or directly to the AC socket.

It could be that the extension cord is faulty, or that the electricity in your building is not consistent. If that's the case, an extensino cord would just worsen the case.

Also, have you tried booting the computer with 1 stick of RAM (trying each one separately)?

I meant psu, sorry I was in a rush. I was using an extension cable box thing but I tried to use it on the wall but still nothing changed. I tried doing what you said to do with the ram and still nothing. How possible is it that it is my cpu that is faulty? When I unplug the 4 pin cable to my cpu then the fans start turning on and don't turn off after a few seconds.
