Hi all,
I just had a quick question for you. I bought a kit on P.C. kit on black Friday for my parents for christmas and I built it with my dad after I gave it to them. However, to my dismay, it didn't post and I was really upset as it seems like the reason may be very stupid.
The kit included:
- Intel Core i3-4150 Processor
- Asus H87M-Plus/CSM Motherboard - MicroATX, LGA1150, Intel H87 Express Chipset
- 4GB ddr3 ADATA RAM
- Cougar Spike Mini Gaming Tower
- Ultra LSP Series V2 650-Watt Power Supply - ATX
So I put it together and used an HDD from their previous P.C. (Which already had a copy of Windows 8 on it), and tried booting. I didn't get anything. Everything seemed to be on. Mobo lights were on, pc fan was running, no error lights on the mobo (I tried clearing cmos, etc. everything per the mobo manual). I wondered if it was because this was a gaming setup and I didn't have a gpu? But the mobo seems to have an integrated graphics processor so i ruled that out (I never had to build a p.c. without a gpu as i have always had one in my builds).
I started googling around and the only thing that I could find is that some people had the same problem when the bios version on the mobo is not compatible with the processor. Wtf? If that is the case that means I got sold a kit that isn't even compatible with itself?
Usually if there is an error I would expect to at least see something on my screen, but nothing, just black. So I was frustrated as I couldn't seem to find any other explanation other then the bios issue.
So my questions:
#1. Anyways, needless to say I returned the motherboard but I'd still like to get it to work... Does any1 know a similar mobo that I can buy that would not have this issue? or would be compatible with the processor??
#2. I did this all within the period of a day or two that I had off, and when I disassembled the mobo to return it, I accidentally got a smidge of thermal paste on one corner of the mounting pins on the bottom of the cpu. I used an ear cleaner to get most of it off, but has that happened to any1 before?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you very much,
