Booting Issue on ASUS X79-Deluxe MOBO

Hi guys,

I am having issues booting my rig and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why.

I recently received a replacement PSU from Firepower (replaced a blown OCZ 850w PSU) and upon slotting it into my system, I have been having nothing but problems.

Everything is connected properly, system powers on, goes through its usual screens and goes to the BIOS (which I have been manually causing since the boot issue).

If I let it just run on its own and I don't interrupt to go to BIOS I get an error asking me to insert bootable media then press any key.

I have the boot devices set to use my SSD which has Windows 8.1 on it, but for whatever reason, it won't progress past the insert bootable media error screen.

The concerning bit is that the SATA information in the BIOS reads every slot as empty which is a bit alarming considering the 4 devices that are currently plugged into the SATA ports. Almost like it doesn't know what to do with the drive...

I have tried re-installing (updating) the BIOS from 0701 to 0901 via the ASUS Flash back button but that has proven useless (flashes for a couple of seconds then goes solid). PNY 16gb formatted to FAT32 with BRenamer file in root directory. So obviously that isn't working too well.

I am thinking that for some reason my rebuild has the MOBO confused as to what it is supposed to look for on my SATA ports, but that seems ridiculous at the same time.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I have tried with just the SSD connected but no dice.

As for the PSU burning up the MOBO: I had the board independently tested by a shop using their own PSU and it was fine. Since it reaches the BIOS and everything seems to be fine otherwise, I am leaning toward software (whether it be BIOS or not) that is causing the issue.

SOLVED:

Not sure what did it in the end, but i cycled through the different SATA configuration (RAID, IDE and AHCI). Then progressively tried different port selections until finally it worked. SSD and Storage are now in Intel controlled SATA ports 1+2, storage 3+4 are in Marvell (I think) controlled SATA ports 1+2.

Couldn't tell you why this worked, but I think because this is a rebuild, the motherboard was looking for existing paths to the operating system and could not find them when the SSD was in a different location or non-intel controlled SATA.

Meh. Thanks for the help though!

Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure the boot drive has to be connected to an Intel SATA.

Well, there you go. Sorry I didn't think of it sooner. I'm glad you found out the issue yourself. Best regards.
