Hello, so i recently ordered a this CPU it came in today, i ordered it to replace my old LG775 socket on my 2011 or so asus esentio cm5571. The problem is the processor didnt come with a stock heatsink or fan... so i have a processor by its self in wrapping package. I was wondering if it was alright if i used my Old heatsink thats on my current processor or if it wouldnt work or itd be bad, i also have a intel i5 stock heatsink/ fan i was wondering if i could use that? i waiting for my aftermarket cooler to come in so i was wondering if i could temporarily use any of these heat sinks?

Solution
You would at least need to put some new thermal paste on the heatsink I wouldn't risk it though not only would it be a waste of time and you would have to pull the thing back off clean the thermal off and clean the cpu for your new heatsink but it could potentially overheat depending on how much more powerful the new cpu is and whether or not the stock heatsink was the bare minimum for that particular cpu.
If the watt's on your new cpu are higher than the current cpu I wouldn't do it just to be on the safe side.

I think you could get away with it, you would just need to pay close attention to your temps in the bios if they start getting out of hand for some reason I'd power off and wait for the aftermarket really though there's not a huge difference in intel stock coolers. I personally wouldn't want to go through the hassle of cleaning it off if your getting an aftermarket soon I'd just wait.

i have thermal paste, ill use the intel i5 heatsink, i wont be able to use the h100 though. because apparently it doesnt support sockets 775 would it be bad if i tried it anyways? and that would be bad.. i do alot alot of gaming though i wont be over clocking
