Doubling Up on Current Graphics Card? Or Buying a New One? Bottleneck Problems?

So I've been looking at a steady dropoff of FPS in my favorite game from 90FPS to around 25FPS over the last three months, but have been watching streamers putting out steady FPS of 60 or more with the new GTX 980 card. What I'm wondering is if I have a bottleneck somewhere on my PC. My PC specs are as follows.
CPU: Intel Core i7 3820
Motherboard: MSI X79A-GD45 Plus
Memory: Kingston 16G DDR3
Storage: Samsung 840 pro 256G
GPU: Asus GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5
Power supply: Xteme Gear 8800 Watt XG-H800

The questions I have to pose are these:

Should I double up on the Asus 780 or replace it with the Evga 980 Superclocked?
Which of these alternatives provides greater performance?

Are there any other things I could do to maximize performance? Such as replacing the CPU with a newer i7 or replacing the Mobo?

Suggestions?

Adding a second 780 should certainly be faster than a single 980 SC, assuming your getting good SLI scaling. Some people however still notice the microstutter using multiple GFX cards, though personally I don't find it to be a big deal. Have you checked temps lately or did this slowdown start after a driver update? There has to be some reason your FPS is dropping off.

Thank you for getting back to me 1liquidPC,

The only dropoff in framerate has been in one game, and everything else still performs extremely well, over 90 in CS:GO, Skyrim, Dead Island, (I know some of these are older) the game in question is DayZ. My concern was mainly in dumping money where it wouldn't do any good. No point in putting extra graphics if something else is restricting it. Am I right? Again thanks.

If it's only one game, it probably driver related. Also, do you have your 3820 overclocked at all using the BLCK straps? What is your current monitor setup/resolution? I'm not sure how bottlenecked you would be using your 3820 using 2X 780s or a 980 SC, but probably not much considering the games your currently playing. Adding a second card and playing older games isn't going to make a huge difference in performance due to them being far less demanding than some modern titles.

Thank you for the recommendation Magicwallaby. I am going to replace the psu at the same time as adding the 2nd graphics card.
Any suggestions for an 850 Watt power supply that I could count on?

Currently I am using two monitors and at 1920 X 1080 resolution and looking to add a third of the same. I am playing modern games as well as the older titles. COD Adv. War. for one. And would like to Play Arma 3 as well. I haven't overclocked due to the fact that I use this PC for everything, not only gaming and I don't want to risk a meltdown as I cannot afford to replace everything.

well that could be why. with dayz you also have to take into account of the server/server fps, they restart so often to try to keep it fairly lag free but it still builds up, it also depends on your location weather it be in cities or in the forest/open roads, my fps does similar and with the latest 52 update fps it got a little worse in some areas but better in others. i wouldnt worry about it untill the game is in a later stage, but if you need to increase performance in dayz, overclock your cpu if possible, it makes a huge difference in the arma series and dayz SA. theres also a few settings to toggle on/off to give a little boost.

Alright so I have installed the 2nd 780 in my machine and am looking forward because I'm stupid, and running 3D Mark tests because again.....lol.
I am wondering whether I am using a garbage motherboard. The X97a-GD45 does not appear on any of the top mark charts while the i73820 still posts respectable scores for physics. When running tests against supposedly "equal" machines I would expect to be within 25% of the score produced, but I am at about 60% at best. Ideas?
