Just finished building my first computer today. Two of the five drives are brand new, and the other three are mine from older devices. When I booted it up for the first time, it saw that Windows was installed on one of the drives and tried to boot from it, but of course failed. Of course I realize that this was my fault for not wiping the drives beforehand, but still. I removed all but the two brand new drives and tried again, but now no matter what I do it tells me to reboot and select a proper boot device. Is there a way to fix this? I was planning on installing a more recent version of windows on one of the new drives.

First disconnect all drives but the one you want to install windows to.
Then boot up and select the optical drive as the boot device (you can also set the optical drive as the primary boot device in the bios)
If the drive isnt listed on the 'where to install windows to, click the drive options link. If it doesnt show up there you either need a driver for whichever controller that drive is on or the drive may not have been detected by the bios (common for drives larger than 2tb with old motherbds)

Thanks, I'll try that when my ODD arrives. Turns out the one I tried to recycle was incompatible.
