CPU Strange Temperature Difference Across Cores

I recently upgraded my motherboard and my cooler from a Hyper 212+ to a Cooler Master Nepton 140XL. With the Hyper 212+, my i7-3770k never exceeded 45C at load even with dust clogging the heaksink.

The Nepton 140XL is odd, however. I used RealTemp and Core 3 appears to be unusually colder than the others.

After running Prime95, the difference still exists. The temperature of Cores 0 and 3 remained around 54-55 degrees while Cores 1 and 2 skyrocketed to 62-65 degrees.

I remounted the cooler and reapplied thermal paste, but with the same results. Why could this be occurring?

Maybe its because the way the water block in the 140xl is made, the warmer water is crossing over the cores,(for the abnormal temperatures for each core) maybe the pump is faulty and no longer works correctly. (for the high temps) I would advise to use the Hyper cooler until you can sort out the problems with the 140xl

rpeopler,

Although what Afterdark3 said is true, some processors have an inherent excessive temperature spread between the highest and lowest cores.

Intel's specification for core sensor accuracy is +/-5C, which means there can be up to a 10C spread between the highest and lowest cores.

Your processor is on the edge of Intel's spec.

Also, do NOT use any version of Prime95 later than 26.6. Here's why:

Core i 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation CPU's have AVX (Advanced Vector Extension) instruction sets. Recent versions of Prime95 run AVX code on the Floating Point Unit (FPU) math coprocessor, which produces unrealistically high temperatures. The FPU test in the software utility AIDA64 shows the same results.

Prime95 v26.6 produces temperatures on 3rd and 4th Generation processors more consistent with 2nd Generation, which also have AVX instructions, but do not suffer from thermal extremes due to having a soldered Integrated Heat Spreader and a 35% larger Die.

Please download Prime95 version 26.6 - http://windows-downloads-center.blogspot.com/2011/04/prime95-266.htm

Run only Small FFT’s for 10 minutes.

Your Core temperatures will test 10 to 20C lower.

Is it not also true that Intel processors tend to have cores that run at different temperatures (like one core marginally hotter than another).

Your AIO might just have a bad pump or blockage somewhere. if it is new, i would send it back for a refund
