restrictive cpu cooler space on intel DX58SO

Hi everyone,

So this question kind of overlaps a few areas but I feel the most important aspect here is the mobo, so I hope everyone feels this is posted in the right place.

To start off, I'm running an aging i7 950 on a dx58so motherboard. I'm starting to feel like I could benefit from some mild overclocking and be able to hold off a platform upgrade for a little bit longer-despite the fact I know I should likely do an upgrade it's just not in the budget right now.

Bringing us to the real question, does anyone have any experience fitting a cooler on the dx58so? due to it's ridiculous placement of ram slots, it seems extremely restrictive. I've attached a picture that shows the layout (ram directly above the cpu, sits at top of case).

Thanks a ton in advance everyone, really hoping someone has a bit of experience with this board.

ya, I just turned to Google image search and managed to find some old pictures of people sticking plenty of coolers in there. looks like worse case scenario I might have to mount something blowing down/up rather than front/back. which is just as good right? I just don't like it aesthetically. But with all that being said starting to look like a cm 212 evo will fit safely, and I've got an NZXT h440 so case wise space isn't an issue. Thanks for the input man, i was convinced I wouldn't be able to feet anything half decent on the board.
