Do you know what this metallic thing is? And how do I temporarily take it out?

Hi everyone.

What's this metal blob? And how can I remove this metal blob that sits between the CPU processor and a fan? I see some Philips screws, but neither regular screwdrivers nor offset ones can help.

I think he is talking about the heatsink X4

I was actually looking for a blob of metal then I realized when he was describing how it's 'attached by screws' etc he was talking about the heatsink.

The bracket kind of reminds me of the ones in the hundreds of Dell towers that were at my school/church with the Pentium 4 processors. I don't think it's an AMD bracket as they have been the same since AM2 till now (maybe even before).
Another guess for the heatsink. The phillips head screws (if I'm looking at the ones the op is referring to) appear to be the ones holding the mounting bracket on. I'm not sure which socket or cooler that is but if I had to guess it looks like there's some sort of plastic clip retainers holding the heatsink to the socket mount surrounding the socket itself. The heatsink would need to be removed first to gain access to the phillips head screws (and likely unnecessary to remove the mount bracket unless changing coolers). Maybe the op wants to remove the heatsink to clean it?

Hi, ThatVietGuy.
I'm trying to see if I could remove the heatsink so that I can upgrade the CPU/processor? Can I even upgrade the processor on this motherboard? Or is the CPU stuck on it forever?

Does this computer actually work? If it does can you tell us what the CPU you have in there so we can check what socket you are using which would allow us to help you find a guide to removing the heatsink. I highly doubt the CPU is unremovable. It should be upgradeable to everything on the motherboard's supported list found on their website if you know the motherboard model.
