I have a WD portable HDD 1.5 terabytes. It was working fine but one day it stopped working. The Led would blink i supposed it was a corruption or failure sign. I opened it up to make sure everything was fine and it was now i try to plug it in to my computer the computer makes a noise which states that something plugged in but i cant see my HDD in the device manager or the windows explorer. Can anyone help?

UPDATE: Now i can view it on device manager but not in explorer

So can you access the data off the hard drive?

What is the sound you were hearing? A dirty fan? The fan hitting something? HDD? CD?

Hello, alanissak320!

I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles with your WD portable drive. :(
Can you tell me the model of your external WD drive, please?
I'd suggest to check this link from our knowledge base and tell me what kind of noise is the HDD making: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Gg5mjA

Also I'd recommend check Disk Management and see if the drive shows up there and what it's status.

Keep me posted! Hope I helped.

sorry i have been banned from the forums for some reason i just made a account when i started this thread. But i guess i can reply my own threads. I dont know where the model number is. And the computer makes the noise not the HDD. The computer is just stating there is something in the usb port. And i tried with a bridge and just directly nothing happens. The device manager recognizes the hdd and also the bridge.
