Try the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer. That's a dedicated gaming motherboard, but if you absolutely NEED a MB with SLI support, then go with the Z97X Killer. Both are great OC'ing motherboards, and have 25-30 dollar rebates, if you need.

The main focus is whether or not you are overclocking. In true reality, you can get a $70 motherboard and get the same quality of performance as a $250 motherboard (assuming you don't overclock on either board) since the components on the board are what do the work (I am not saying there is no difference, better motherboards have better chipsets and support higher RAM speeds). The main difference in the cheaper and more expensive boards are that they will have more memory slots, more PCI, PCIe, and PCIex16 slots, more SATA ports, and pretty much more available options that very often go unused. But the largest factor for getting a more expensive "Z" board is to overclock the CPU.

If you are not overclocking, Any $70 will work perfectly fine. If you are overclocking, there are a variety of options. There is the MSI Z97 Gaming board for a cheap $130, or if you want to achieve a higher overclock the Asus Maximus VII Hero is great. And there are tons of other options by other and those same manufacturers. You should scam around pcpartpicker for any that interest you.

I don't know who told you to get a $300 motherboard, but whatever it is, it's overkill. The sweet spot seems to be ~$120-~$150 for motherboards. I would recommend something like the ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 or the ASUS Z97-A. Another option would be the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97x Killer which I heard is a great overclocker. Good Luck.

Ok great I want to get a Intel I5 4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 and figure 8-16 gigs of ram with Either R9 280 or R9 290 Video card. This is for battlefield 4. My friend was just using a Example of Good ASUS Intel boards of the top of his head when I called him for help, he has a bigger Budget then I can afford and something about SLI or Crossfire.

Your friend probably had the maximus vii formula in mind which is about as overkill as it gets, sure, it's one of the sexiest boards out there imo, but it's honestly waayy overpriced. Anyways, for the video card, I have to recommend the gtx 970 over the 290 and 280 due to the sheer price-performance of it, but if you have a strict budget, those two are also good choices. For ram, 8gb should be enough for now in terms of gaming unless you do heavy multitasking and such.

That's probably about the best bang for your buck graphics card out there right now. Make sure your CPU won't end up being a bottleneck though.
