Hi. As the title suggest, I've an external HDD with said specs. I've had it for about 5 years, since 2010. I've been experiencing problems with it for about 1.5 years, and it had gotten progressively worse over time. The problems included but not limited to freezing, slow transfer rate, "Device Not Recognized" while attaching to PC, etc.
So I decided to run a test on it with "HDTune Pro" . I found out this:

I've about 600 GB data on it, and I've moved the most important ones off of it. Which means I can loose the remaining data, but I prefer not to.

I've to mention, running chkdsk /r /x did nothing of value except taking 6 hours.

Now, I know this doesn't look good, but I was just wondering, is there anyway to fix it? Maybe reduce the capacity and keep using whatever's left, preferably without loosing data?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there miladed,

Unfortunately, there is no way to stop the dying process. Also, the results of the test suggest that the drive can die at any moment.
I guess you can use it for storing non crucial data(as you can't get a new one right now).
You can try to write zeros on it(back up all the data first as it is data destructive). It may slow down the process a bit.

Yeah, it's off. This drive was for multimedia purposes. I keep a copy of my most important stuff backed up in the cloud.

The problem is I can't afford to buy a new drive really. I was saving money for a new SSD :(.
