Hi,
first of all thank you in advance for your time and attention, your advice and your help. There's 3 parts in my request for help:
1) the simple questions
2) a bigger view (my view) on it
3) the CPU-Z report of the K72F
The simple questions:
What CPU should I get?
And will I need a separate GPU with that?
Is it even possible to add an GPU on this mainboard?
Or am I better of with a 2in1 CPU/GPU like the 560M (2cores/4threaded)?
Are there better options for the 560M? Keep in mind my budget of next to zero.
Can I improve my machine by adjusting something in the BIOS or other settings as it is now? For example is my memory used optimal or is it only used partially because of the 1333MHz memory vs. 1066 CPU?
Should I get new memory? I think I do but which do I buy? Think it depends on the other hardware in this topic as well. So perhaps you could enlighten me.
Explaining myself my way (which mostly is in al lot of words, but leaves less for the imagination thus less room for mistakes and 'bad' advice):
For the past 3 too 4 years I've been using my Asus K72F-TY116V happily. It's equipped with Intel H55 Motherboard , has 3GB installed (Hynix 2GB 1333 MHz (2Rx8) & 1 GB 1333MHz (1Rx8)) with 1238MB dedicated too the Intel HD Graphics.
Past year I ran into more and more lags and such. I do not feel there's need to buy a new laptop because this one is still upgradable. I will probably need to repost this request for help in several parts of the forum due to the fact my thread is about more then just one topic: Mainboard, CPU, GPU as well as memory.
I've had contact with Asus about it but I think they are only thinking about 'what's save for them' where I wish to go to the edge of it.
So first of all I have pasted a copy of the CPU-Z report about the current state below. All necessary information for you about the machine is in there and easily to find as most of you must know.
So, I have concluded the H55 supports up to 1333MHz memory, however the P6100 and most rPGA 988A (or Socket G1) CPU's only go up to 1066MHz. So the memory is being downclocked. Another problem is the build in Graphics. I think I'm stuck with only a certain amount of types of CPU's in which the i5 560M was shown best of possibilities according to comparison by 'cpuboss'. At least the best of the i3's and i5's. One would say the 580M should be the best, but apparently it isn't according too benchmarks. Secondly I noticed in CPU-Z report the H55 is able to support 16GB of memory, while many hours of previous research made me conclude it will only go up too 8GB's. However, since this isn't a big issue but if anyone knows the answer... The report also shows 'room for 2 more memory slots. So perhaps that's why. I have opened the machine and never noticed more then 2 slots, so perhaps it's only theoretical.
Anywahooo, if it would be possible I would think it would be better to have a separate GPU instead of a 'build in'/ dedicated memory. Or am I mistaken?
So, on my own I've decided that i5 560M is the best I can do without having to ask around. But I want bigger and better. Just without spending really any money. Mostly because that's the thing I am even more short of then speed of my laptop.
So what do I use it for. I really like to surf the web finding out all sorts of things. Mostly technical and mostly from youtube or forums like this one. The only reason I don't go beyond 20 or 30 open windows is well, it just won't work that well. Besides the screen of the laptop half of the time i've added an external screen (Samsung 24" SyncMaster 2443BW 1920x1200) so I can watch HD video's while surfing the web. Besides that I fool around with facebook a lot which I know asks a lot and I use Office programs and Adobe Reader a lot.
I'm a chaotic person so I only close things when, well... I forget to plug in the charger. But on most days the laptop stays on 24/7.
What I don't do is playing a lot of graphic games. However I feel that I really need to upgrade a good deal to make this machine work another 2 maybe 3 years without lags and stuff.
edit: Somehow I couldn't post the CPU-Z report. So I deleted it from the mainpost and will try again in answer.
