Cannot connect to Wired Network, Unidentified Network: limited. Hardware or software?

So, I cannot connect to the internet on only one of my computers, my gaming desktop (running on Windows 8.1). I custom built it around 4 months ago and it has been running faithfully until now. This happened around five days ago, I turn my computer on and on the Ethernet connection Icon there is a yellow triangle with an "!" in the middle. I click on it and it says "Unidentified Network" with a word under it that says "limited".

Since my other wired and wireless computers still work i decided to try the software troubleshooting first. I disabled and re-enabled my Ethernet port, disabled IPv6, I went into the console and tried looking at my Ip addresses, only to find i had no default gateway. I tried to do ipconfig/refresh in console, but it said that I cannot connect to the DHCP server. I thought okay, it could either be The hardware or the ISP.

I proceeded to unplug and replug all the Ethernet cables, plugged the Ethernet cable onto a different port on the modem, and still no luck. So i called up Comcast and reset my modem hoping that would help, It did not. I did look at my IPCONFIG again and now i DO have a default gateway, but it still says i have limited access. I then refreshed my IPCONFIG and it worked this time, no connection to DHCP server errors. I also Dumped my DNS cache, but still nothing.

After all of this I Unplugged my Desktop and brought it over to the other computer (windows 7) to use its Ethernet. And wouldn't you know it, it worked. I brought the other computer to the Ethernet cable that used to be on my gaming desktop and it had the same problem, it said unidentified network! Now I have no idea what this means, because I still have some access, albeit limited, so how can my actual Ethernet cable be the problem? I really have no idea where to go from here.

Additional info: my brother has had the same problem as this on his wireless laptops, he has had two different laptops have this problem. Also, the Ethernet card is Intel Gigabit.

Thanks for your help,

That suggests very strongly that the Ethernet cable is the problem, I would replace it.

Your brother's experience can be due to other causes as there are many issues that can result in an unidentified network. Frequently for laptops with wireless unidentified network issues while everything else connects fine, changing the MAC address of the wireless adapter with THIS free tool can fix that quickly.

I am trying new cables now, hoping I don't have to replace the 100ft+ cable routed through the basement. Also I have discovered that My default gateway has only IPv6 and no IPv4, while the connection that works has both. What could be causing that?

I don't at the moment, but a quick trip to Home Depot should do it.
