I am stuck choosing between Gigabyte z97x gaming 3 or gaming 5 . The Price difference is somewhat low in my local store . I saw the gigabyte site about the difference and all they say is the gold plated + audio capacitor .

Some people said it's completely the same & some said the 5 is better for overclocking ( I am planning to overclock later ) because it has better cooling & power phase .

Can't find any source of those information so I am asking you guys is it worth to pay more over the 3 to get the gaming 5 ?

I am gonna use it with 4790k + gtx 970 g1 .

hey,

here are the differences:
"
Pure shall we say electrical specs or I/O specs are not the only differences.

The Gaming 5 has this "over" the Gaming 3.
Gold plated display and audio ports
High end Nichicon audio capacitors
PLUS What is in the BOX > Gaming 5 has 4 Sata Cables over Gaming 3 only 1 Sata Cable
"

so you say there is a difference in the electrical specs ? . I know about the gold plated + high end audio capacitors but I am concern of the overclocking capability as some said there is an improvement from the 5 over the 3 .

5 will deliver it's power a bit more stable, which is good for oc.
I'm not sure what the effective difference will be, but i cant imagine it being more then a couple of FPS.

The difference becomes bigger if you compare the 3 against an asus VII hero for example.

Personally i would just focus on the audio, are you willing to spend a bit more for onboard audio?
I would, and i did, would you?

not really,

A capacitor prevents the sound from deteriorating due to under-voltage, but doesn't actually improve the sound. It supports the amplifier by feeding it the power it needs for short bursts. So, while not improving sound quality directly, a cap does make it easier for the amp to perform its best.

Overall you will get better audio-quality with the 5 series. It's up to you to decide if it's worth the extra cash.
Will you notice the better quality, not for games i guess, at least not so much that you would regret buying the 3-series.

I cant help you any more that that. Now you need to decide how important that little extra audio is.
