far cry 4 is unplayable with the microsoft controller plugged in, the game starts to get horrendous loading times and an unbelieveable amount of glitches, you cannot even progress with the story unless you disconnect it. i contacted ubisoft and they said they still dont have a patch for it, is there some other alternative that someone has found? i really hate playing games on my mouse and keyboard.

Solution
A_goat - this problem is widespread & has never been taken care of by ubisoft.
I have a wireless receiver and a wired pad as well.
Either plugged in the game will not load to title screen. It sticks at 90% loading bar - if I pull the batteries on the wireless the title screen pops up
If I select an option menu with pad on - black screen, pull the battery option screen pops up.
Play the game pad turned off - works fine.
Turn the pad on whole playing - people /animals / map mission points disappear in front of me.
Turn it back off - they reappear.
Nope - had this issue from day 1 mate.
Works fine on my upstairs rig fx8320 & r9 280x
Will not work with my htpc gamer - fx6300 & gtx 970
I have turn off the pad to get it to load even.
If I switch the pad on in game ,cut scenes don't work ,enemies & animals disappear ,missions disappear etc.

im using a gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 mobo and yea i also use a wireless keyboard and mouse as well

It will be in the bottom left of the screen, on the main menu screen before you start the game.

The issue was resolved for me after the 1.5 update.
I was experiencing all those issues before 1.5....

While the issue is definitely with the game to a certain extent, there's also software/drivers on your computer that are at fault. I had an old unused version of Logitech's SetPoint software, and after uninstalling it + the old USB HID entries that went with it in the hardware manager, I no longer had the black screen/hanging load issue with the 360 controller connected in FC4. I've played the game since release day with the controller and never had an issue.

Code:

yea im running 1.6.0 so i dont see how the game version is the problem

Sadab0 - yep same os mate.
Doubletake - I'm using a Logitech setup with setpoint here coincidentally.
Its an htpc rig do I do need it really (obviously on a lounge under tv setup, wireless keyboard & trackball is a necessity to me.
& yes I do have numerous HID entries in device manager.
Are you saying you got it working removong old drivers but you can still use your Logitech wireless or you've disposed of them entirely.
While its annoying if I can't have both - the wireless setup is more important to me than one poxy badly optimised game (free with my 970 anyway)

just installed windows 8.1 and played far cry 4s first chapter (prologue), had no problems whatsoever, the gameplay is great and everything works, just wish the people who make these games would make things more compatible with previous versions as well, i had to waste 120 just because of mediocre development.

You are a rare case in having a pc that can run FC4 with a game pad!
I have a FX6300 with a GTX760 and the game exhibits the same issues you describe. Black screens, failed loads and massive stuttering..... only when a xbox360 controller is plugged in. I have been working with Ubisoft tech support for weeks and frankly they do not know how to fix this game. Just like when FarCry3 when released, it was a complete mess for a few weeks.
I've tried everything yet nothing works........except every other game I have that allows use of a game pad. In a few days I will be getting a FX8350 and I'll try the game with that processor installed.

Do you think it's the new operating system or just a new install of an operating system that suceeded in eliminating this game issue? Even a month old operating system can collect dozens of fault modules for software errors.

I have no idea mate ,it works fine on my windows 7 PC upstairs - fx 8320/GB 970a-ud3p/r9 280x.
It also worked fine on a pre-xmas build I did for someone which comprised a fx 6300/GB 78lmt-usb3/r9 280 with windows 7.
With not me a sadab moving to win 8.1 & it working I have no idea - it may be something to do with windows 7 in unison with nvidia keplar series cards.
I only paid £10 for a windows 8 upgrade key or I honestly wouldn't have bothered - the game was free with my gtx 970 & tbh I've hardly played it since it actually started working.

I have only had Far Cry 4 for a few weeks. I got it when it was the Amazon deal of the day for $30. That being said, I have only played the game with my wireless 360 controller and usb dongle. I have never experienced any of the problems people are reporting here.

I have an FX 6300, GTX 970, and run Windows 8.1. From the responses here, it seems like the problem only seems to be affecting Windows 7 users. I have never had any third party programs that allow you to use the 360 controller on games that don't have native support though. That could be the issue as well.

The amount of time I spent trying to get it working is absolutely insane,I did literally everything short of a full clean windows 7 install.Tried cracked game exe files & updates from all kinds of dubious sources as a last resort.
I do use pinnacle game profiler, but uninstalled completely ,made no difference, toatlly removed all my HID drivers & devices, dropped to a wired keyboard & mouse instead of my logitech unified wireless stuff.still no cigar
The prebuild I did for someone ,I installed literally everything I had on my own pc,including logitech wireless drivers etc, worked first time with pad without a problem.
I was going to try swapping cards out with my 280x,but was offered a windows 8 upgrade key cheap, used it & the game worked instantly from then on,so had no need.

There are reports of the game not working with peoples wireless keyboards & mice (far worse then the 360 pad issue - to all intents that makes the game unfit for purpose completely) - all of these reports are on windows 7 ,no such issues on windows 8/8.1 at all.

Yeah, I upgraded to 8.1 last night and the game pad issue with FC4 is gone. This morning I played the game @ 1920x1080p at ULTRA for six hours with my Xbox360 controller without coming across a single problem. Now I'm busy trashing most of those worthless apps that come with 8.1
At one time last night I thought "This 8.1 is really a bucket of sick!" Well, that still remains to be seen.
I digress.
