I know for a fact that the Sound Blaster Z sound card comes with the audio surround option; however, I am not sure if this feature is exclusive to headsets or if it also works with audiophile headphones.
The Sound Blaster Z is capable of 5.1 as it says on the specs, however, the Audio Technica ATH m50x don't mentioned to produce 5.1 surround capability, so it is not capable. If you need 5.1 then look for gaming headphones. If you want Audiophile - it only means one thing. stereo headphones that sounds like surround and to get that, you'll likely be spending no less the $500.
The card simply provides an output. It does not know what you plug into it. If you want a better quality sound use a DAC in conjunction with the sound blaster z. I use the creative E3 with the Z.
