Is the Radeon R9 280x good for gaming?

Solution
Yes, the R9 280x is one of the most powerful video cards out there in the market, only behind the R9 290 series and GTX 970/980 from Nvidia. It will handle newest games at max quality with no issues (unless maybe going with 4k resolution).

Yes. But it is primarily going to be used for video editing with Sony Vegas 13.

Since I mainly plan to do video editing I went with the i7.

I have a Radeon 7970 (the R 9 280x is basically a rebranded 7970 with a few minor tweaks), and I absolutely love it. I can play most games on ultra settings and get around 40 fps or more on 1080p.

But A Goat is right. If you don't already have that build made, there are improvements that could be made.

I would have gone with a better graphics card, however since I will mostly be using the pc for video editing I went with a better cpu, more ram, and an ssd.

Ok, that makes sense. I think that was a wise decision.

I think you will be pleased with your setup. The 280x still makes for some very enjoyable gaming experiences.

The 280x will not handle all games at "max" quality on 1080p (60hz+).
Even at 60FPS, the 280x will struggle with the most demanding games out there... especially when a high AA setting is applied.

That being said, I love my 280x. I can play most games on Ultra (60hz), if I spend some time tweaking the graphical settings (slightly lowering AA and other settings)
