My computer tends to BSOD when gaming occasionally. (happening at least once or twice a day)

GPU: R9 290 4GB

RAM: (2x4GB) G.Skill 2133mhz DDR3

MOBO: GA-78LMT-USB3 (Rev. 5.0) !IMPORTANT SPECS ON RAM: ONLY SUPPORTS UP TO 1333MHZ http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4602#sp

PSU: Corsair 600w CX

CPU: FX-6300

Nothing is overclocked, all new parts. Running on Win 7

I ran memtest for 3 hours, and it found a total of 0 errors.

I had an old network card in my newly built computer, removed it just right now to see if that was the problem. (will update with results soon)

I can play some games for up to 8 hours straight, but when I switch to a new one, it will BSOD within 5mins of playing it.

I am running MSI Afterburner w/ Auto Fan to rule out any heating issues.

I installed the Chipset / Sata drivers (rev 5.0 from the gigabyte site)

________________

EDIT: It seems my issues have disappeared since removing the old network card, will update. | STILL SUFFERED A BSOD

EDIT: Crashes are still ongoing, but not as frequent. Will try to uninstall certain drivers to see if that helps.

EDIT: Ran CCleaner to resolve any registry conflicts, will update accordingly

EDIT: Uninstalled Broadcom network drivers (apparently came installed with the computer) Reinstalled Wireless network drivers.

EDIT: It appears I had a crash just right now. 1/9/15

EDIT: 1/9/15 Flash GPU BIOS all is well | https://imgur.com/a/ZLZwd

EDIT: 1/9/15 Updated BlueScreenAnalyzer / minidumps

EDIT: 1/10/15 Reinstalled Windows / Verified with MD5 to see if the file had anything missing. Crashing still occurring

________________

What I discovered since I first posted this:

1) Ran memtest for hours on end, 0 errors

2) Ran virus scans

3) uninstalled faulty drivers

4) My GPU throttles itself to -50% when I reboot | This has been fixed w/ a BIOS update

5) I only crash when playing games | True 100%

6) GPU will not bsod when running at -50% underlock

7) BSOD often occurs in the second game I switch to, not the first. **THIS MEANS I CAN PLAY ONE GAME FOR 8 HOURS, BUT WHEN I SWITCH TO ANOTHER, IT CRASHES WITHIN 5 MINUTES**

8) Last 10 BSODS all occur for the same reason.

9) THE PROBLEM CAN BE EASILY REPLICATED

10) Accessed the BIOS to see if there was anything fishy going on. My ram is 2133mhz, but my mobo only support upto 1333mhz. When I went into the bios I saw that it was at 1600mhz. Could this mean it OCed itself?

11) Lowering the ram memory clock to 1333mhz did nothing. Still suffered a BSOD for the same reason as the previous dumps

Steps I'm going to take soon:

1) reseat ram (Priority #1) I HAVE NOT YET DONE THIS -- UNSURE IF IT'S A PROBLEM THAT HAS TO DO WITH RAM SEATING

2) Reinstall Windows #2 **COMPLETED. STILL HAD A BSOD**

_____

I tried this on another forum, but no one could figure it out. I'd be greatly appreciative If I could finally figure out the problem!

Since you mentioned it doesn't seem to happen outside of gaming, and no BSOD occurs w/ the underclocking, it may be a faulty GPU. Not sure why the 8 hours is fine, then switching causes BSOD though. If you leave underclocked, do you have any problems? You did mention having to flash due to the -50% on reboot. Since you've reinstalled windows, have you tried different driver versions? You probably should try reseating the RAM, graphics card, reconnect the power/data cables in your system. What happens from a Non-GPU stresstest such as Prime95, OCCT, AIDA64, Realbench, ect. This would be helpful to stress the PSU to check for stability being power related, maybe try Furmark, 3DMark as well.

No problems so far in prime95. Next I'll do furmark. If nothing happens then. I'm going to reseat the ram.

The system is stable in furmark. Doesn't even go beyond 78C
