Good day all of you beautiful people.

Im now fixing friends computer , when I noticed weird clicking sound when the disk is idle ( just being on windows desktop nothing running). I ran numerous sites which said that it is disk failure and I should backup everything and buy new HDD.

(chkdsk came ok same as WD scan application)

But the true question is, is it real failure on HDD or is it normal? I dont want him to spend money if he hasnt so im out of options and I really need help. Thanks for any info there I really appreciate that.

HDD is - WD7500BPVT - 22HXZT3 750GB.

Solution
All tools and graphs show that the HDD is in a good health. On the other hand, there are some sounds that are not really common. My suggestion just to back up the most crucial data and use the drive.

Since the WD diagnostics says it is okay, I doubt the noise you hear is the "click of death." That is a very distinct, loud and regular sound.

Hard drives normally do make some noise even when idle, but once they are in the case it is not really noticeable.

Wait a day or so and one of the WD official reps will probably come by since your post is tagged for them, and see if they have any other advice.

Hi there Askalpone,

Are you sure the sound comes from the HDD?(By opening the case you will get a clearer picture whether the HDD is making the sound) :) If this is the case, you can try swapping the cables as well as changing the SATA port.
Apart from that, as three different tolls show that the HDD is fine, it most probably is.
It may be a good idea to check the Health tab of HD Tune as fzabkar already suggested.

Cheers,

Thanks all for your replies people , appreciate that. Clicking is quite loud and I can hear i clearly even when the lid is closed. I forgot to mention its laptop not big pc. Im sure it comes from HDD I had my ear close up :D I dont know either if it is problem too but I can hear HDD going slow and fast like it cant hold up stable speed in idle. Its like car loosing its RPM when in idle mode. Not sure really guys but you are helping me alot. Hopefully we can get to final solution..

EDIT: Turned off AIDA64 and got clearer results..not sure what to think
