8 pin mobo power connector problem? Please help!

Which end goes to the psu and which end goes to the mobo? Both ends do not seem identical (aren't they supposed to be?). The end on the left (in the pic) connects to both the psu and the mobo, but the right end (splitted) doesn't seem like it would connect to either. What am I not understanding here?

The left end has the male/female connector pattern, but the splitted end only has that for 4 slots, and the other 4 slots are all one type.

That's what I noticed as well about the pattern. But the splitted end ended up fitting into the 8 pin mobo port. I don't know why they made it like this to confuse me. And yes, both ends are of the same cable.

Hard to tell, every psu is different. I have another system with a modular psu and the psu connectors are red while the mobo connectors are black. Makes it a lot easier to identify. They also have a keyed plug on the end that goes to the psu, makes it almost idiot proof :p Glad you got it sorted out.

In hindsight I see where I goofed, I wasn't visualizing the 2 4 pin connectors the other way around. Makes sense though if it's a 4+4 pin cpu connector (split to allow for either/or depending on mobo and cpu power requirements). Some only require a 4 pin power cable to run the cpu. Most newer ones take the 8.
