Please Help! Lost folders on external hard drive!

So I come home and attempt to save a picture to a folder into my Toshiba external hard drive and the destination is not there! The hard drive has renamed itself back to the default name, but the weird thing is I did not lose all files, just some! So strange i would only lose a couple folders.. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi there giggity127,

It may be a good idea to start with backing up the data that has not disappeared. After that, I guess you should use some recovery software and see whether it will be able to recover the files. Just keep in mind to save any recovered data on another location(internal hdd lets say) in order not to overwrite the data.
I would advise you to reformat the drive after you have backed up/ recovered all the data and put it back on the external.
