Is there a simple way to pre-test a power supply before plugging it into a motherboard (for obvious reasons)?

I'm sure this is covered here, but I haven't been able to come up with good search keys. I believe some power supply manufacturers ship a connector with a loop for this purpose.

I guess you must get points for that. Well, there ya go.

That page was enough to figure it out, but it may as well be obsolete now. Due to some bizarre Goth sense of aesthetics, supplies are shipping with all-black cables now, so 'green wire' is nowhere to be found. I wish there was an option for color-coded cables.

Anyway, I was able to find the correct pins and to verify voltages via voltmeter. Two new supplies: EVGA/Superflower and Seasonic X-series, (yes, both with solid black color-codes) . I had to poke around a bit to find a -12v pin. It's beside the paperclip loop pins.

BTW, both supplies' fans are whisper quiet. The EVGA/Superflower smells a bit like hot electronics, which is kind of unsettling, but voltages are good. Maybe I'll let that one run for a while before plugging into the motherboard, just to be sure.
