Why is flash content suddenly freezing my computer?

Hi everyone, I've used tom's hardware in the past for it's rich information, I'm hopeful that now this fine community can help me fix my problem.

The Problem: As the title of the thread reads, any and all flash content will and suddenly freeze my computer. Also, and I don't know if this relates, but any DVDs I play via Windows Media Player will freeze it. When I run WEI, it will freeze when tuning Windows Media Encoding.

It All Started: It all started after I reverted to using my PC monitor (via VGA cable) from my TV which I connected with an HDMI cable.

What's Been Done: I manually uninstalled the older version of flash I had and then manually installed the new flash update.

I discovered that flash would not update itself for Firefox (my default browser). When I'd d/l the 1.0 mb downloader from their website, it wouldn't open. Ever. No matter what. I ended up doing an uninstall/install of the latest version (the version I was running was 11.0 lol).

The Computer: (don't laugh) eMachines EL1352G-01W running Windows 7 Home Prem 64-bit that my wife picked up from walmart a few years ago. It was always sorta not great for anything. I recently upgraded some components on it to make it somewhat fit for gaming (i.e. Starcraft, WoW, and Rocksmith). I'm not a die-hard gamer or PC guy by any means, so I'm content with what I did. (It's a loooooooong story on how and why but...) I upgraded to an ATI Radeon 5450 HD low profile from Newegg, a used AMD Athlon II X2 245, and an EVGA 400 watt psu.

Your inputs and help are appreciated, thanks in advance!

Is it just the vid that is freezing or is it the whole system that freezes? If its the vid then it could be the card, if its the whole computer, it could be a virus or some software that is corrupting adoby

It's the whole system that freezes.

I also forgot to mention that I've got all my drivers up-to-date as far as I know, including the ATI drivers. I used to think it was a graphics card issue, but idk if a bad graphics card would cause the whole system to freeze when flash content comes on or when playing DVDs only but then work fine for anything and everything else. If I use Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 (which came with the computer), DVDs play fine and hassle-free from any of the outputs on the computer. Dont know what to think. I was thinking of just wiping the system and starting fresh, but if I can fix the problem I'd rather do so than have to download 5 to 7 gigs worth of programs all over again lol

Ok.... That is a weird one. None of those programs have any thing in comon, besides the fact that they play vids. And i do know that a gpu issue can cause a total freez. My radion freezes the whole system if it reaches about 70 celcius

Currently, my temp is at 63*C. My card is a low profile so it doesn't have a fan. I think I'm going to reformat it and start clean. I think that will help resolve any software issues.

Now i'm no expert, but with experience, I have found that 63 is pretty high for your temp. My card usually freezes at around 70 and I have to do a restart.
