What System Specs am I looking for in Laptop which I will primarily use for Maya and Adobe Suite?

Should I focus on CPU power with an okay GPU or Both; keeping in mind of a budget around £1000 or less if possible?

I've already spent a lot on a Desktop for most of my work and rendering but I require a new laptop for when I go to Lectures and Work at Uni

Things like AutoCad and Max will run OK on the 970m but if you are using something that leverages OpenCL more I would go for the Quadro. But by all means, I mean YES the 970m is an AWESOME GPU and EXCELLENT at doing everything, but the differences is precision and features. There are features that are not available to the GEFORCE line unless you hack the card...

The QUADROs are slower clocked gpu and memory for Precision. They are not gaming cards, they are for productivity specifically with 3D Modeling and CAD type work, so because of this the Quadro is better suited. Unless you are using CUDA massively you should be fine with the Quadro...
I would focus on GPU power as that will be what is driving the renders mostly. There are a few exceptions though (h.264 anyone?) so you may want to make sure that the CPU won't bottleneck the GPU, it should be fine then to handle some rendering. NVIDIA is great for Adobe as Adobe uses the mercury playback engine which can be CUDA accelerated.

I've looked at some Lenovo Laptops which look interesting but I'm not sure which to go for...

There's a Multimedia and Gaming Laptop:

And then there's the Workstation Laptop:
http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/w-series/w540/?menu-id=w_series

I'm not really looking to render in Maya because I've got my Desktop for that; so would the Y-Series be good or the W-Series?

For purely video editing and not gaming I would go for the workstation one as the quadro graphics are optimised for exactly for what you are doing. If it doesn't matter if you end up waiting maybe 15 minutes longer for a final render, then by all means go for the Y series as that has a decent consumer GPU in it.

The GPU in the new Alienware (GTX 970M with 3GB GDDR5) looks like it more powerful than the one in the Lenovo Workstation (NVIDIA Quadro K1100M 2G), The 970M is built on a newer architecture (Maxwell) and the quado GPU on the Keplar right?

Which is better then?
